How Divorce & Remarriage Affects Birth Order

When treating young patients in a small community families divorce and remarry and many of the children knew each other before these events took place.

I had one family that this happen to as I was treating children in both families.

Tiffany was an Only child, living with her mom. Everything in her life was just great except for the absence of a father.

When her Mom remarried, Tiffany got two older step sisters.

She now had to share a bedroom and her birth order went from an Only Child to a number Three.  This demotion didn’t sit well with Tiffany.

After the marriage, Tiffany went from a very cooperative patient to a sullen very unhappy one.  Her Mom had kept her house and Tiffany, while at first happy to get a Dad, she decided the marriage had to end.

The power of an Only child knows no bounds. That is exactly what happened 6 months after the marriage. Now, Tiffany was returned to her Only child status and her own bedroom.
